  1. The screensaver is asking for 16-bit color. What is that?
  2. Why is the screensaver only playing 2 MIDI songs from my chosen directory?
  3. Why do the background songs sound odd?

The screensaver is asking for 16-bit color. What is that?

16-bit color refers to the number of colors your computer screen displays at once. Some computers can display only 256 colors at one time, others can display 16-bit color (65,536 colors at once), and others can display 32-bit color (4,294,967,295 colors at once).

If the screensaver asks for 16-bit color, then more than likely your computer is currently set to display only 16 or 256 colors at once. Sometimes this can be changed.

To see your current graphics mode and to change graphics modes, right-click on a completely empty area of the desktop (not on an icon, the taskbar, etc.) and choose "Properties". On the multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, choose "Settings". From here, you can change your "screen resolution", "color quality (display mode)", and other options. Refer to the Windows Help for more information on changing your graphics mode.

Please refer to your graphics card/monitor manuals to determine whether or not your computer supports 16-bit color graphics or higher.

Why is the screensaver only playing 2 MIDI songs from my chosen directory?

The unregistered versions of TravelScreensavers.com screensavers only play two out of a possible four songs from their internal bank of music. Likewise, they will only play two songs from your chosen MIDI directory.

If you choose to register a screensaver, it should play all or nearly all of the songs from your chosen directory. Note that the current version of the screensaver plays songs sequentially. Future versions are planned to play songs randomly for more variety.

Why do the background songs sound odd?

The screensavers are tested on a variety of machines with different operating systems and sound cards. Due to the technical nature of how the songs are distributed in the screensavers, however, there may be instances where the songs sound odd on your particular machine. If this occurs, here are some steps you can take to help remedy this:

1. Disable 3d audio mode for your speakers or sound card (if applicable). Doing so has been noted to remove distortion on some machines.
2. Experiment - lower your bass/treble settings for your speakers or sound card (if applicable).
